These bipedal creatures are of mutable form so that they are able to shape
themselves into the likeness of any humanoid creature of from 4' to 8' tall
which they observe. Having become the double for a person they attempt
to do away with that victim and assume its place. If unable to do this, the
doppleganger will simply attack, counting on the confusion engendered
to make it indistinguishable from the creature it is mimicking (surprise
means this works).

Doppelgängers are able to ESP and imitate with 90% accuracy.
They are subject to neither sleep nor charm spells.
Despite having only 4 HD they make all saves as if they were 10th level fighting men.

Note: A dopplegänger actually forms itself into the likeness of the clothing
and equipment of the imitated creature as well as the physical features
thereof.

<ensure the Germanic 'double-dot' (^..^) accent over the a & A>

Your experience is certainly with bad editors.
I have had both sorts.

But never one good enough to catch egregious misspellings of common words like "dero", "dinichthys", "doppelganger", "erinnyes", "lemur", "tarasque", and "Tartarus"?

Frankly, sir...

You are a bore.

Did it ever occur to you that some words are not as others have spelled them so as to make the attached monster information unique?

That aside, I was speaking primarily of fiction editors.
Have you ever written any fiction that was published?

Gary

I have a question regarding the Doppleganger. All damage descriptions of this monster give a d12 damage. Given the nature of these creatures how did you view this damage being done? I imagine that if a weapon was being used from a previous victim then the damage would be variable. So I tend to see the d12 damage being from the dopplegangers limb, perhaps changing into a weapon-like appendage (a bit like the Terminator 2 robot that was fighting Schwartenegger)

Am I on the right tracks?

Good health! John

Howdy John

Appreciate your good words.

You indeed have the correct concept of the damage from the doppleganger. the weapon is an extension of the creature, and thus the damage is a constant.

Cheers,
Gary
