Effect: Upon casting this spell, complete silence prevails in the AREA of its effect.
All sound is stopped, so
all conversation is impossible, spells cannot be CAST, and no noise whatsoever
issues forth.
The spell can be CAST into
the air || upon an object.
<edit: The spell of silence lasts for 2 rounds for each level of experience of the cleric, i.e. 2 rounds at 1st level, 4 at 2nd, 6 at 3rd, 8 at 4th and so forth.>
The spell can be CAST upon a creature, and the effect will then radiate from the creature and MOVE as it moves.
If the creature is unwilling, it saves against the spell, and if the save is made, the spell effect locates about one foot behind the TARGET creature.
DMG: If this spell
is CAST at a magic resistant creature,
and resistance works, silence
does NOT encompass the creature.
DMG.Spell
Turning: Turning of the spell, in whole || in part, will negate
its effects, save for muting sound, if it is turned beyond its radius.
A: The center of the
effect lands <1> foot
behind the creature, silencing
it until it
can move out of the AREA
of effect.

ADQ: A silence
15' radius spell prevents
sounds made within its area
of effect from
being heard outside. But
can those within
the silence hear
noise made outside, or
are they effectively deaf?
ADA: The silence
15' radius spell magickally
dampens all noise within
the area.
Those affected cannot hear
anything, and
no sounds made within the
volume can be
heard by anyone inside of
it or otherwise.
Note, however, that clairaudience
will still
function normally if its
user is within a
silenced area, as
long as the target area,
not silenced. Similarly,
a blind man could
see (temporarily) iif given
a clairvoyance
potion!

THE FORUM
How often has the following
taken place? ?You
said the monster is sleeping?
Yo, cleric! Cast
your silence 15? radius spell
on the [insert name
of creature about to be attacked].
Then we?ll
surround it and attack on
my hand signal. It will
never know what hit it.?
As the cleric casts his
spell, the other adventurers
begin arguing over
the division of treasure.
What?s a DM to do?
First, silence spells were
meant to be defensive,
not offensive. That is why
they were given
to clerics. They are used
to prevent enemy spellcasters
from doing just that ? casting
spells.
Silence is also useful for
sneaking away from or
past things. This is why
thieves have the ability
to move silently.
Okay, so the party still wants
to use silence to
sneak up on something. Silence
means just that
? no noise at all. The sleeping
creature will no
longer hear the whistling
of wind, the rustling
of leaves, or the chirping
of birds and crickets.
Most intelligent creatures
will wake up at the
complete absence of noise.
Imagine how distressing
it would be for a sleeping
dragon to no
longer hear the tinkle of
coins underneath it.
The dragon would be awakened
instantly and
would probably be in a fighting
mood to boot.
If your party still wants
to use silence to sneak
up on something and attack,
here is one way to
do it: Cast the silence 15?
radius on something
small, a stone for example.
Have someone in the
group carry the stone. The
person carrying the
stone should be chosen so
that everyone is the
group is within the 15? spell
radius. The area of
effect should not extend
to the target creature?s
head, or it will wake up.
Remember, silence 15? radius
is only a secondlevel
spell. It was not meant to
wreak havoc on
all sleeping creatures.
