The various forms of this marvelous device all appear
to be normal garments, whether made of cloth or leather.
Each lends to its
wearer benefits on AC -- each plus of the cloak of protection
bettering AC by 1 factor -- and to saving throw - each plus being
added to the wearer’s saving throw dice rolls. Thus a + 1 cloak would
make AC 10 (no armor) into AC 9, and add + 1 to saving
throw dice rolls. To determine how powerful a given cloak is, use this
table:
<>
Dice | [, +?] | XP | GP |
01-35 | + 1 cloak () | 1k | 10k |
36-65 | + 2 cloak () | 2k | 20k |
66-85 | + 3 cloak () | 3k | 30k |
86-95 | + 4 cloak | 4k | 40k |
96-00 | + 5 cloak () | 5k | 50k |
Note that this device can be combined with other items, such as
leather armor. It cannot function
in coniunction with any sort of magical
armor, normal armor other than that of leather,
or in conjunction with a
shield of any sort.
WSG: The cloak enables its wearer
to take less damage
from a fall or a tumble; use the “plus”
of the ring as a subtraction
from each die of damage called for, to
a minimum of 1 point of
damage per die. This applies both to abrasion
damage and impact
damage. This power of the cloak is related
to its ability to improve
armor class, so that this power also will
not function if the
character is wearing magical armor.
Q: May a cloak of
protection be worn
with nonmagical elfin chain
mail?
A: No, nor may it
be worn with any kind of
armor other than nonmagical
leather (see
the DMG, page 141).

Q: Can a cloak of
protection be worn
along with a cloak of displacement
or robe of blending?
A: Only one magical
cloak can be worn at a
time, although a magical
cloak and a robe
can be worn together, with
the cloak being
worn over the robe.
