Although Tanis remains
in the present in
the Legends
novels, he may return to the
past--either with Caramon
or on his own. He
might also accompany Tika in a search
for Caramon
and Lady Crysania.
Tanis is married to
Laurana and is basically
living happily ever after. Their love
grows
daily. Both are extremely busy--Laurana
serving
as a diplomat for the Knights of Solamnia,
Tanis accompanying her as advisor, guide,
and
bodyguard. Both are highly respected and
admired throughout Ansalon.
If there is any hint
of dissatisfaction in
Tanis's life, it is that the demands of
being
famous have forced him to give up much
of
his beloved privacy and independence.
Laurana,
being the daughter of royalty, ts accustomed
to life in the public eye. Tanis isn't,
and he resents the loss of his freedom.
There is
also a great deal of pressure on Tanis
to try to
"put the world back together:' He doesn't
really feel adequate for the task, but
he is
doing the best he can.
There is always in the
back of Tanis's mind
the fantasy of Kitiara--just as Kit knew
there
would be when she aided his escape from
the
Temple at Neraka. Much as Crysania is
in love
with an ideal of Raistlin that can never
possibly
be, so Tanis is in love with an ideal
of Kitiara.
He still doesn't truly know her.

Q: How could Tanis,
a half-elven
fighter, attain 12th level?
The DLA
says half-elven fighters
can only
reach 9th level.
A: Ninth level is
normally the limit for halfelven
fighters on Krynn. But,
since Krynn
is an AD&D game world,
single-classed
demi-humans can exceed their
class level
limit by two (Unearthed
Arcana, page 8).
Where Tanis got his extra
level is anybody
?s guess, but the fact that
he attained
12th level is not surprising
considering his
pivotal role in the War
of the Lance and
the time he spent in the
presence of Paladine
himself (in the guise of
Fizban).
