Effect: By casting
this spell the MU appears to immolate himself
or herself, but the flames are thin and wispy,
shedding light equal only
to half that of a normal torch (15’ radius of dim light),
and colored blue || green
if variation A [hot flame] is cast,
violet or blue if variation
B [cold flame] is employed.
Any creature striking the
spell caster with body or hand-held weapons will inflict normal damage
upon the magic-user,
but the attacker will take
double the amount of damage so inflicted!
The other spell powers depend
on the variation of the spell used:
A)
The flames are hot,
and any cold-based attacks will be saved against at +2 on the dice,
and either half normal damage or no damage will be sustained;
fire-based attacks are normal,
but if the magic-user fails to make the required saving throw (if any)
against them,
he or she will sustain double normal damage.
*
can be CAST and will function within the bounds of an airy water spell.
MC:
A bit of phosphorous.
B)
The flames are cold,
and any fire-based attack will be saved against at +2 on the dice,
and either half normal damage or no damage will be sustained;
cold-based attacks are normal,
but if the magic-user fails to make the required saving throw (if any)
against them,
he or she will sustain double normal damage.
MC:
A live firefly or glow worm or the tail portions of 4 dead ones.
<light, heat, cold: notes should be made about these>
<Books
of the Forgotten Realms seems to indicate that these are two seperate
spells, and, thus must be diced for and learned separately>
Q: Will magical protections
vs. fire or
cold reduce the doubled
damage
inflicted on an attacker
if he strikes
someone using a fire shield
spell?
For example, will a ring
of fire
resistance protect the attacker
if he
strikes a magic-user using
the hotflame
version of the spell?
A: No. The spell
surrounds the caster with
a field of force that is
the same no matter
which version the caster
chooses. The
field uses the energy of
incoming attacks
to inflict sympathetic damage
on attackers.
This magical damage is neither
fire- nor
cold-based.

ADQ: Does the Fire
Shield return magickal
and STR bonuses, or just
the
base damage roll?
ADA: The applicable
damage bonuses
are included.
