Effect: When a stinking cloud is cast,
the MU causes a billowing mass of nauseous vapors to come into being up to 3" distant from his or her position. <DSG: odor rules>

Any creature caught within the cloud must save vs. Poison
or be helpless due to nausea from 2 to 5 rounds (d4+1). <DMG.J: there are several anti-nausea herbs>
Those which make successful saves are helpless only for as long as they remain within the cloud,
and for the round after they emerge, because of its irritating effects on visual and olfactory organs.

MC: A rotten egg || several skunk cabbage leaves.

I

<the Assassin's Table for Assassination can be used when an attack is made upon a helpless opponent>

DMG: A gust of wind spell will blow this away in 1 round after contact.
If it is cast in a place where there is considerable air movement,
the stinking cloud will move in the direction of the air current at from 1" to 6" per round,
depending on air speed. <define this>
For each 1" of such movement, shorten its duration by 1 round.

<make note about zephyr>
<make note relating wind speed in mph to 1" to 6" per round>

II

Wu Jen: Using this spell, the wu jen conjures a billowing mass of nauseous vapors.
Those caught within the cloud must make a successful save vs. Poison or be rendered helpless for 2-5 rounds.
Those making the save are unable to attack for as long as they are within the cloud.
A gust of wind dissipates the cloud in a single round, and normal winds move the cloud 1 to 6" per round, reducing its duration by 1 round for every 1" moved.

Q: How do you handle the effects of a
stinking cloud spell? How can any
creature move out of the cloud if it
is rendered helpless?
A: A successful save vs. poison indicates
that the creature moves out of the cloud
immediately and is helpless for a full
round afterward. A failed save indicates
that the creature is helpless for 2-5 rounds
before leaving the cloud, remaining helpless
for one round after it emerges.

IV

Stinking Cloud
A person is not absolutely “helpless,” either in the cloud or if
he/she/it fails a normal saving throw. The figure cannot cast spells, but
can defend his or her person with a weapon at -2 to hit and -3 from
effective AC (all dexterity bonuses are lost in addition). A figure
emerging from such a cloud is more easly surprised. The duration of
2-5 turns is far too long, in my opinion. I use 2-7 rounds, though figures
(monsters) with 2 or fewer levels (hit dice) are RELATIVELY helpless
for 3-12 rounds. Thus, a figure in the cloud or one who fails the saving
throw cannot attack while suffering from the cloud’s effects
