The enchantments placed upon this instrument
make it
indistinguishable from a normal one; and
even if its magic is detected, it
cannot be told from an instrument of the
bords until it is played.
If the proper chords are struck, the lyre’
will negate the effects of a horn of blasting,
a disintegrate spell, or the effects of
6 rounds of an ottock of an
earth
elemental
- all as pertains to constructions. Such playing of these
negatory chords can be done once per day.
The lyre‘ is also useful with
respect to actual building, of course.
Once per week its strings can be
strummed so as to produce chords which
magically construct buildings,
mines, tunnels, ditches, or whatever. The
effect produced in but 3 turns of
such playing is equal to the work of 100
men laboring for 3 days. If a false
chord is struck, all effects of the lyre
are 20% likely to be negated. A false
chord is only 5% likely once the character
knows the proper ones, but if
disturbed by physical or mental attack
while playing, the likelihood rises to
50%.
Q: Will striking the
wrong chord on a
lyre of building destroy
everything
built with it?
A: Striking the wrong
chord on a lyre of
building negates everything
accomplished
with the lyre that week,
so all structures
created during that time
will be wholly
undone--but not all structures
ever made
with this item (see the DMG,
page 149).

ADQ: My DM says that
I must have
the building materials on
the site when
I use my Lyre of Building
to create a
castle keep. I maintain that
the magic
of the Lyre creates the materials
as
well. Who is right?
ADA: The Lyre only
provides the magical
labor force, it does nothing
to create
the building materials.
