This being is the advisor to the Gray Mouser,
charging for this advice the theft of seeming nonimportant and/or important objects and devices all
over the world of Nehwon,
and sometimes other universes as the
mood takes the being. While the books constantly refer to Sheelba as a he,
the author of the series, Fritz Leiber, <link> and his longtime friend Harry Fischer both
maintain that Sheelba is a female. Whatever it is, it is clearly not a
creature of Nehwon, but a being related to the lower planes.
Sheelba appears to the world in a large monkish robe, with a full cowl that is totally dark inside (hence the name).
It lives in the Great Salt Marsh <l> in a magic hut with animated stilts. This hut moves at a rate of 24" over the roughest landscape.
Sheelba has a dislike for and rivalry with [Ningauble of the Seven Eyes],
but at times they are forced to help each other.
Categories such as intelligence and the like change with the circumstances that the being finds itself in.
<note this at abilities: if no hint is given in the stories, then perhaps some kind of a random generation thing, with the above 'statblock' being 'statblock 1', or somesuch>
    <Comeliness should be n/a>
<an XP value should be given for the hut, as one is given for Baba Yaga's Hut>
<"related to the lower planes" = -1 Morality, yet not quite Gehennan, Tarterian, et al.>

It is commonly known that demons (who can perceive its real form) scream in horror when facing Sheelba and leave instantly.

Sheelba is a greedy thing out to get all the profit out of life that it can. On
the other hand it protects its investments by preventing bad things from
happening to the heroic pair and their city.
<if somone chooses to FIGHT Fafhrd & The Gray Mouser, is there a % chance that Sheelba is using [clairvoyance]?>

I'm glad to hear that Gary's found this ms., and hope you'll find other lost goodies as well. Is there a chance that there's anything interesting from NIPI on those CDs?

Nothing from New Infinities. All of the files are post that time IIRR. What I am anxious about is a complete Setne Inhetep novel that was the first of a new action-adventure trilogy I planned and the long short story JTR mentioned featuring Ning' and Sheelba I wrote for a Fritz Leiber-tribute anthology that Ed Kramer was overseeing and editing.

Cheers,
Gary

I surely liked Fritz very much, loved his writing, and the lost long short story I have not yet recovered us very much a tribute to Mr. Leiber. That is why I focused on thetwo wizards as the central figures in the tale.

Cheers,
Gary
