Dismissal
(Abjuration)

<this text was moved>
This spell does not work on creatures that are native to the [Prime Material Plane] but travel to other planes (such as shedu),
nor against creatures that have part of their ancestry in the [Prime Material Plane] (such as cambions).

Effect: By means of this spell,
a magic-user on the PMP seeks to force or allow some creature from another plane of existence to return to its proper plane
(cf. 4th-level cleric spell abjure).
The name of the type of creature to be returned must be known,
and if it has a given, proper, or surname, this too must be known and used in the spell.
<>

Save: Magic resistance,
if any,
is checked for effect immediately.
Then,
the level of the spell caster is compared to the level or number of hit dice of the crreature being dismissed.
If the magic-user has a higher number,
the difference between his or her level is subtracted from the saving throw score of the creature to be affected by the dismissal.
If the creature has a higher level or higher number of hit dice than the level of the caster,
then that difference is addd to its saving throw score.
    Exception: If the creature desires to be dismissed,
    then only an unmodified saving throw is needed. <can a creature forgo a save in 1E?>
    Certain arcane works are reputed to allow greatly enhanced chances for spell success. <research = D82>
<heading>
<>

If the spell is successful, the creature is instantly whisked away,
but the spell has a 20% chance of actually sending the subject to a plane other than its own.
<to start, incl. a link to random plane generation table>

MC: The material components of the spell vary with the type of creature to be dismissed or called. <><>
In general,
items which are inimical and distasteful to the subject creature are used for a dismissal,
and for a beckon spell materials which are pleasing, desirable, and rewarding must be used.
<this could be trimmed>
<a full table, listing all extraplanar creatures of the MM, FF, MM2, et al. should be made>
<as well, add a field to DMG.D>

Wu Jen: This spell allows the wu jen to return an extra-planar creature to its native plane.
The creature's name and type must be known, and the spell must conquer magic resistance as well. The creature being dismissed
receives a saving throw, with the difference in levels between the caster and creature used as a bonus or penalty
to that saving throw. Should the saving throw fail (a willing creature needs no saving throw), the creature is
returned to its home plane.
Neither of these spells function on creatures who are natives of the Prime Material Plane, <reword>
nor those with part of their ancestry in this plane.

Wu Jen.MC: An object inimicable and distasteful to the creature.

The reverse of the spell, <alt = The esrever of dismissal,>
beckon,
attempts to conjure up a known and named (if applicable) creature from another plane.
<>

Success or failure is determined in the same manner as for a dismissal spell,
but in this case MR is only checked if the creature has no known proper name.
<>

If the spell succeeds,
the creature is instantly transported from wherever it was to the plane of the spell caster.
This does not guarantee that the beckoned creature will be kindly disposed to the magic-user,
nor will it in any way be subject to his or her wishes or commands without some additional constraint.
Because of this,
various sorts of protective measures <>
<link to dmg.42 / S4, on another page / at the bottom of this page, or just incl. the images below this line>
are generally taken when using this form of the spell,
and even with careful preparation,
the results might be unwholesome.

Beckon, Wu Jen: The spell's reverse, beckon, calls a creature from another plane into the presence of the caster,
but does not guarantee the creature is friendly to the wu jen.
Neither of these spells function on creatures who are natives of the Prime Material Plane, <reword>
nor those with part of their ancestry in this plane.

MC.Wu Jen: An item pleasing and desirable to the creature.

<in UA terms, there would be a prompt: ENTER MONSTER NAME
here, the player can type in the name of any extra-planar creature from the MM, FF, MM2, et al.,
and that creature appears (or is dismissed) if it fails it's save.>
<with regards to things like demon lords:
ENTER MONSTER NAME = demon lord
ENTER MONSTER NAME = name>
<as long as the spelling is perfect, anything can appear via beckon, so this is a fun spell for a player with a collection of outer-planar minis.
Yes, surprises for the GM!>

<in UA terms, the 20% chance to be whisked away to a plane other than it's own =
1. randomly determine plane
2. randomly determine layer
3 randomly determine square (d570)
4. check against the creature's specabs : if none allow escape from that plane.layer, then that creature is there, as an encounter, for the rest of the campaign>
