Bowyer
(1, 15): This proficiency requires a die roll to determine success.
The character can make bows
&& arrows of the types given in
the OA rules, although
a weaponsmith must fashion the
actual arrowheads. The construction
time for a bow is two weeks, while
one arrow takes two days.
At the end of this time, a die roll is made for success.
A modified 25 or greater
indicates a weapon of quality and another
two weeks or two days must
be spent to finish the job. When making
arrows, a failed die roll
indicates the arrow is unusable.
However,
when making a bow, a failed die roll that is within 4 of the normal chance
of success
indicates that a flawed
bow has been made. Such bows break when
used anytime the character
gets a to hit roll of 5 or less. Broken bows are
unusable.
Bowyer/Fletcher: The character can make bows && arrows of the types given in the PH weapons lists on pages 37 and 38.
A weaponsmith
is req. to fashion arrowheads, but the
bowyer/fletcher can perform
all other necessary functions. The
construction time for a
long or short bow is 1 week; composite <one>
bows req. 2 weeks; 1d6 arrows
can be made in 1 day. <two, one>
When the
construction time for the weapon is completed, the
player makes a Skill Check.
If the check is successful, it
means that the weapon is
of fine quality and will sustain many
years of normal USE without
breaking. If the check fails, the
weapon is still usable,
but has a limited lifespan:
An arrow breaks on the first
shot;
a bow breaks if the character
using it rolls an unmodified 1 on his d20 attack roll.
Option:
If
a character wishes to create a weapon of truly fine
quality and the DM allows
it, the player can opt to USE this alternate
procedure for determining
the success of his attempt. When
the Skill Check is made,
any failure means that the
weapon is useless. However,
a successful check means that the
weapon enables the character
to USE Strength bonuses to attack
rolls and damage. Additionally,
if the Skill Check is a natural 20,
the range of the bow ||
arrow is increased by +2" for all range classes.
Equipment: This is another profession that requires little
in the way of tools beyond an assortment of knives and vises.
Cost: 250 gp (The cost of raw materials is 11-20%(1d10 + 10)of
the value of the finished work.)
