The Fenghsintzu River is called by many names;
"the Great Snake," "Water Father," "The
Liquid Spirit,?
and ?Heart-road? are just a few. It is the original method
of travel in the south and many barges still slide
past its banks. It is infested with crocodiles and water
buffalo, and in the far south there are water serpents
that can sink a 40-foot barge. Boats, rafts and canoes
are available in any river town along its winding
course.
