Effect: By use of an extension I spell the M-U prolongs the duration of a previously cast
first,
second,
or third level
spell by 50%.

Naturally, the spell has effect only on such spells where duration is meaningful.

DMG: This spell must be cast after the spell to be extended, whether by another spell-user during the same round,
or the initial spell caster or another immediately preceding the casting of the extension.
If a round elapses, the extension goes for naught.

Extension I: The DMG makes it clear that
this spell must be cast by the wizard
upon himself on the round immediately
following th ecasting of the spell to be
extended or else the extension is useless.
In the event of 1 wizard casting
extension upon another, this must be
done eduring either the same round or the
1 following.
(Imagine #29)

Example: Thus, a levitation spell can be made to function 11/2 turns/level,
a hold person spell made to work for 3 rounds/level, etc.

Variant, Adelimer’s aural augmentor: This
latter spell is merely a variation of
extension I (q.v., PH) that has a somatic
as well as a verbal component, but
takes only one segment to cast (it
remains fourth level).
