Effect: When this spell is placed
upon a poisoned individual it greatly slows the effects of any venom,
even causing a supposedly dead individual
to have life restored if it is CAST upon the victim within a number of
turns less than or equal to the level of experience of the cleric ofter
the poisoning was suffered,
i.e. a victim poisoned up to 10 turns
previously could be temporarily saved by a 10th or higher level cleric
who cast slow poison upon the victim.
While this spell does not neutralize the
venom,
it does prevent it from substantially
harming the individual for the duration of its magic,
but each turn the poisoned creature will
lose 1 HP from the effect of the venom
(although the victim will never go below
1 HP while the slow poison spell's duration lasts).
Effect.example: Thus,
in the example above,
the victim poisoned 10 turns
previously has only 10 HP,
so when the 10th level cleric
casts the spell,
the victim remains with
1 hit point until the spell duration expires,
and hopefully during that
period
a full cure can be accomplished.
MC: The cleric's holy/unholy symbol and a bud of garlic which must be crushed and smeared on the victim's bare feet.
<Garlic, bud : 5 cp>
Druid:
This spell is identical to the 2nd-level clerical
spell slow poison, except that
if the druid is able to determine that
the poison was one made from some living
plant, he or she has a 5%
chance per level of knowing an herbal
antidote which will neutralize
the poison. (If the actual type of poison
is not given by the Dungeon
Master, a successful casting of detect
poison [type] indicates an organic
poison which can be countered.) A dice
roll equal to or less than
the druid’s chance to find an antidote
indicates neutralization.
Druid.MC:
The druid uses mistletoe as a material component for this spell, and
crushed garlic must be rubbed on the recipient’s
feet. Antidotes must
be obtained from green
vegetables outdoors, or from an herbalist or
similar source of supply.
Shukenja:
Casting this spell upon a poisoned individual slows the effects of that
poison,
restoring life to that
individual for the duration of the spell.
The poison is not neutralized, and 1 hit point is lost per turn, reducing
the individual to 1 hit point for the
duration of the spell. A poisoned individual who has received no further
cures at the end of the spell's duration
will perish.
Shukenja.MC: The shukenja's {holy symbol} && a bud of garlic.
GARKHAL: Would a slow poison spell cast before someone has been poisoned do anything?
MORLIN: Given that it has
a duration of 1 hour/level IIRC I have always ruled that it makes the recipient
basically immune to the effects of poisoning
(I think there's a 1 hp
per hour damage taken or something like that) for that time. If not neutralized
by the end of that duration the poison will kill them.
FRANK MENTZER: Ditto for my +1 pants.

AD&D question time! Slow Poison versus Neutralize Poison. The former is pretty clear on what it does and how it works - brings the stricken back from the brink of a lethal dose of whatever poison laid them low, within a set amount of time, etc.
Neutralize Poison, however, says that it "detoxifies the victim" touched (or poisons them if you cast the reverse). Was the intent for Neutralize Poison to otherwise function as Slow Poison (e.g., bring the stricken back from "death")?
Doesn't say so, but I wanted to see if you had any thoughts on that.
Err...
Where does it say that Slow Poison brings someone back from death? It only keeps the victim alive longer until a Neutralize Poison can be cast to rid the toxins from the subject's body.

srsly, though, does neutralize poison function like that too?
I mean, it's no big deal, just curious. (Or perhaps "cure-ious" <big grin> )

Bringing back from the brink
of, or actual, death due to poison is not a cure.
The SP spell slows the effects
of the poison, but it will not stop them.
Only a NP
will do that.
How long the victim of poisoning
will remain alive under a SP spell effect is up to the DM, but I allowed
a full 24 hours.
Cheers,
