SHURIKIN:
The shurikin, or “throwing star,” is a star-shaped
disc 4 inches in diameter with four to
eight side-ground points.
The shurikin is usually less than half
an inch thick and often has
a hole in the center by which it can be
hung on a peg or attached
to a hook to hang from a belt. The most
common method of
carrying shurikins is in a small belt pouch.
Such a pouch holds
up to six of the discs, but it was common
practice among the
ninja of feudal
Japan to have special pockets similar to these
pouches sewn into their garments at the
thigh or on the upper
arm, with each pocket holding one or two
shurikins.
The shurikin is a good small-sized missile
weapon, and its
shape and use easily lend it to poisoning
purposes.
