YAWARA: The
yawara is the most harmless-appearing of all
the weapons described here, and to the
uninitiated will usually
be seen as a ridiculous weapon. The yawara
is simply a 6-inch long
cylinder of wood about 3/4 of an inch in
diameter.
It is held in a clenched fist so that the
ends protrude slightly
from both sides of the fist and can be
used to gouge an enemy.
It is occasionally tapered a bit at both
ends like a bo stick, but
this has little bearing on its use in normal
combat.
