Weapons are used by Lizard Men only 10% of the time
for normal varieties. Those that “evolve to a higher state” gain normal
Strength bonuses to hit and damage when Strength is from 16 to
1800. Leader types are always from that 10% which use weapons,
and they may well also be the tribal Wizard Doctor. Occasionally, twohanded swords are used by leaders of strength 18.91 or better.>

Lizard men are semi-aquatic, breathing air but often (35%) dwelling totally underwater and having caves which are not water filled in which they lair.
They are typically found in swamps, marshes, and similar places.
They band together in rough tribal form. They are omnivorous, but lizard
men are likely to prefer human flesh to other foods. In this regard they
have been known to ambush humans, gather up the corpses and survivors
as captives, and take the lot back to thier lair for a rude && horrid feast.

Advanced Lizard Men: About 1 tribe in 10 has evolved to a higher state.
These lizard men will dwell in crude huts, use shields (thus armor class 4) and hurl barbed darts (3" range, 1-4 points damage) or javelins (1-6 HP damage) before closing with enemies.
In combat these advanced lizard men employ clubs (treat as morning stars). They speak their own language.

Tribal Spell Casters : Shamen (C7 maximum) OR witch doctors (C7 / MU2 maximum).
Not recommended for random encounters.

I fear that all but the lizardmen are unique to the AD&D game and can not be properly replicated, as is true of the owlbear.
Blame me for that, even though Terry Kuntz conceived the original model for the beholder

Lizardmen are in the Manamilia category and likely covered by the Travail therein.

Gary

Lizardmen I made up to add to the list of humanoid monsters. They were added to the encounter mix to provide another and different aquatic, marsh, or swamp peril.

Nothing more complex than that
