Prayer
(Conjuration/Summoning)
"It happened that while
Jesus was praying in a certain place,
after He had finished,
one of His disciples
said to Him,
"Lord teach us to pray
just as John also taught his disciples." "
-- Luke (11.11)

Effect: This spell
exactly duplicates the effects of a chant
with regard to bonuses of
+ 1 for friendly attacks
&& saves and
-1 on like enemy dice.
However, once the prayer
is uttered, the cleric can do other things,
unlike a chant
which he or she must continue to make the spell effective.
MC: The cleric needs a silver holy symbol, p°r°a°y°e°r b°e°a°d°s, or a similar device as the material component of this spell.
DMG: If a prayer
spell is uttered while another cleric of the same
deity is chanting,
the effect of the two spells
are cumulative,
i.e. +2 for friendly creatures,
-2 for foes.
Note that the two spells
must be CAST by clerics of the same religious persuasion,
not merely the same general
alignment,
and that the chant must be in progress while the prayer is said.
Important
Note Regarding "To Hit" Adjustments +
Prayer: The DMG notes that this spell
cannot be combined with chant unless
1 priest casts the prayer while a 2nd
is already chanting. Both must also serve
the same deity.
(Imagine #30)
Shukenja: This spell duplicates the effects of the chant without requiring continual chanting, allowing the shukenja other actions.
Shukenja.MC:
A holy symbol

Q: What does a bless
spell do, and how is it different from the chant
and prayer spells?
Also, are the chant
spell's damage bonuses and penalties counted per attack or per die of damage?
Do the areas of effect of
these spells move with their casters?
(153.6)
A: Here's what each spell does:
A bless
gives friendly creatures
+ 1 on morale
"to hit" rolls; if reversed
(as a curse), it
gives enemies a - 1 on those
rolls.
A chant
spell gives friendly creatures
+ 1 on "to
hit," damage, and saving-throw
rolls; at the
same time, enemies receive
a - 1 on the
same rolls.
A prayer spell gives
friendly
creatures + 1 on "to hit"
and saving-throw
rolls, and enemies - 1 on
the same rolls.
Prayer does not affect
damage, and neither
prayer nor chant affect
morale.
The
areas of effect for each
spell are fixed and
do not MOVE with
their casters. Bless affects
creatures in its AREA of
effect at the
time of casting only; chant
and prayer
affect all creatures in
the AREA of effect,
even those who enter after
the spells are
completed. Damage modifiers
from chant
are per attack, not per
die of damage.
