Effect: Druids have the capability of bringing back the dead in another body if death occurred no more than a week before the casting of the spell.

The person reincarnated will recall the majority of his or her former life and form, but the class they have, if any, in their new incarnation might be different indeed. Abilities and speech are likewise often changed. The table below gives the reincarnation possibilities of this spell:

09-12 bear, brown

Any sort of player character can be reincarnated. If an elf, gnome or
human is indicated, the character must be created. When the corpse is
touched, the new incarnation will appear in the area within 1 to 6 turns.
(Cf. sixth level magic-user spell reincarnation.)

DMG: Regardless of the form of the creature in which the character is reincarnated,
allow the new form to progress as far as possible in characteristics and abilities.
For example, a badger character could grow to giant size, have maximum HP,
plus bonus points for a high CON, and the INT level of its former character.
A centaur reincarnation might eventually gain hit dice up to 5, 6, 7, or even 8, and it would be eligible to wear armor, use magic items, etc.

SA: reincarnation

Shukenja: This spell allows the shukenja to instill the life force of a deceased individual to another form, and as
such is used in situations where the body is long dead or the body is severely deteriorated or damaged. Unlike
other versions of this spell, there is neither time limit nor body required to complete the spell. The spirit will
inhabit one of the following types of bodies:

Die Roll Body Type
01-05 Bakemono
06-10 Bear
11-15 Boar, wild
16-20 Carp
21-25 Drake
26-30 Eagle
31-35 Faun
36-40 Fox
41-45 Goblin Rat
46-50 Hawk
51-55 Hengeyokai
56-60 Hsing-sing
61-65 Human
66-70 Korobokuru
71-75 Ogre
76-80 Ogre mage
81-85 Raccoon dog
86-90 Stag
91-95 Tiger
96-100 Water Buffalo

If the character is reincarnated in a form that is a player character race, a new character is generated. The
character has all the memories of his previous life, and is able to communicate with his comrades.

Shukenja.MC: T shukenja's holy symbol and some part of the deceased's body, or some article of clothing or item connected with the deceased.

Q: Can a spell-caster still cast spells if
he is polymorphed or reincarnated?
A: Yes, probably. Polymorph self allows
spell-casting if the new form has prehensile
digits and is capable of speech. Note,
however, that all equipment carried polymorphs
with the caster, so spell components
won't always be available. If a
polymorph other spell was used, the victim
might "lose" his components as above,
and he will lose all memories and abilities
if he assumes the mentality of his new
form. What happens when a character is
reincarnated is up to the DM. Generally,
the character can still use his professional
skills if his new form will physically allow
it, although further advancement is not
always possible.

ADQ: If a character is reincarnated, at
what level of ability does the new incarnation
begin? If the creature is reincarnated
as a character type, but his former
class is not available to his new race,
what happens?
ADA: A reincarnated character should
retain approximately the same mental characteristics
(INT, WIS, and CHA),
and thus is the same level of
experience as before the incident. The DM
may modify this to allow a drop of 1 level,
but not more unless demi-human maxima
apply. If the profession (class or classes) is
not suited to the new form, the abilities are
nevertheless retained, but further progress
is impossible.
