The ice formations common to
this body of water resemble the teeth of a predator,
and thus the bay is named for the great ice-coated
rocks and bergs that menace vessels attempting to
land along its shores. In the summer, numbers of
seals and walruses (and even odder creatures) bask
along these rocky coasts, and there parties of hunters
seek after ivory and furs. (Some say that the name of
the place is based upon the long teeth taken from
these creatures rather than the icicles and frozen
spray.)
